Day 1: Arrival in Delhi
Your journey begins in Delhi, the bustling capital of India. Our representative will warmly welcome you and help you check in at the hotel. Once settled in, you can spend the rest of the day at your leisure as you prepare for your upcoming transformative adventure.
Day 2: Explore the Buddhist sites in Delhi
Delhi has its own connection to Buddhism and today we will visit the majestic Lotus Temple, a Bahá’í House of Worship known for its unique lotus-shaped architecture. Later, we will visit the impressive Ashoka Pillar in the lush gardens of Feroz Shah Kotla, an ancient edict that reflects Emperor Ashoka’s commitment to the principles of Buddhism. In the evening, we will go for a leisurely stroll through the picturesque Lodhi Gardens.
Day 3: Bodh Gaya – Land of Enlightenment
Fly to Gaya and from there a short drive will take you to Bodh Gaya, the sacred place where Prince Siddhartha attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree. Feel the peaceful atmosphere of the Mahabodhi Temple and Bodhi Tree, where the Buddha’s teachings were born. Meditate and reflect on the deep wisdom that emanates from this sacred land.
Day 4: Bodh Gaya – sights and sounds
Discover more of Bodh Gaya today by visiting the Great Buddha statue and the peaceful Dungeshwari cave temples where the Buddha practiced austerities. Take part in a meditation session at one of the monasteries to deepen your connection with your inner self.
Day 5: Rajgir and Nalanda
Take a scenic drive to Rajgir, an ancient city closely associated with the Buddha. Take a cable car ride to the Vishwa Shanti Stupa at the top of the Ratnagiri Hills, which offers breathtaking views of the region. Later, head to Nalanda, home to one of the oldest universities in the world. Follow in the footsteps of ancient scholars as you visit the ruins of Nalanda University, an important center of Buddhist learning.
Day 6: Transfer to Varanasi
Head to Varanasi, the spiritual capital of India, where life and death coexist on the banks of the holy river Ganges. Witness the mesmerizing Ganga Aarti evening ceremony, a spectacle of devotion and light that will leave you spellbound.
Day 7: Sarnath – the place where Buddha first taught
Explore Dhamek Stupa, a prominent monument and peaceful ruins of monasteries that reflect ancient teachings. Feel the serenity of this place that still attracts pilgrims from all corners of the world.
Day 8: Varanasi to Kushinagar
Continue to Kushinagar, the site of Buddha’s mahaparinirvana (last pass). Pay your respects at the Mahaparinirvana Temple and Rambhar Stupa, where the Buddha was cremated. Contemplate the impermanence of life and the concept of liberation while standing among these holy relics.
Day 9: Travel to Sravasti
Head to Sravasti, an ancient city closely associated with the life of the Buddha. Visit the Jetavana Monastery, where the Buddha spent a considerable amount of time and imparted basic teachings. Let the spiritual atmosphere of this place touch your soul.
Day 10: Sravasti – Sankassa – Lucknow
Today we will visit Sankassa where the Buddha descended from Tavatimsa heaven after teaching his mother. See the famous Ashoka Pillar and visit a Sri Lankan Buddhist temple before heading to Lucknow for your overnight stay.
Day 11: Return to Delhi
Fly back to Delhi where you can indulge in last-minute shopping or sightseeing. Spend the day reminiscing about this profound journey.
Day 12: Farewell
