9 Day Kuldevi Jawara Puja Navratri Tour
The Devi Jawara festival in Khajuraho is one of the most sacred and traditional Navratri celebrations in Madhya Pradesh. This 9-day spiritual pilgrimage is not just a festival – it is a profound ancestral ritual during which devotees honor their Kuldevi (family deity) through:
Kalash Sthapana
Jawara Beej Ropan
Daily fasting and puja
Daily temple darshan
Havana and bhajans
Durga Saptsati Path
Kanya Bhojan
Holy Jawara Visarjan
All rituals are performed under the guidance of experienced temple committees and Pandas.
Day 1: Arrival in Khajuraho | Kalash Sthapana and Jawara Beej Ropan
Arrival at the Khajuraho airport/train station. Transfer to your hotel and check-in.
In the evening, travel to the holy Kalash Ghat, where, under the guidance of the local temple committee and the Panda, the following activities take place:
Kalash (Ghat) Sthapana on behalf of Kuldevi
Jawara Beej Ropan (sowing of sacred seeds)
From this day on, devotees observe an uninterrupted fast for all nine days (either a fruit fast or a personal vow).
Day 2: Daily Jawara Puja and Temple Darshan
Morning ritual bath, followed by:
Daily Jawara Puja at Kalash Ghat with water, flowers, incense, and lamps. Then, darshan and worship at the revered temples of Khajuraho:
Devi Jagdamba Temple
Baghrajan Mata Temple
Important: Worship at both temples is obligatory every day from the 1st to the 9th, in accordance with the Jawara tradition.
Day 3: Navratri Sadhana – Japa, Meditation, and Devotion
This day is dedicated to:
- Daily worship of Jawara
- Continuing the fast
- Japa, meditation, and prayers to Devi
- Evening Aarti/Bhajans at the temple
Day 4: Devi Anushthan and Holy Discipline
Morning and evening Jawara seva and darshan of Devi.
Devotees maintain strict discipline, devotion, and spiritual restraint.
This day is ideal for seeking family harmony and the peace of ancestors.
Day 5:
Darshan of the Development of Jawara | Devi Aarti, Bhajan, and Kuldevi Havan
A highly auspicious day of Navratri:
Special Darshan of the Development of the Jawara (Ankuran)
A green and healthy Jawara is considered a powerful sign of Devi’s blessing.
In the evening, organized by the local committee:
Grand Devi Aarti and Bhajan Sandhya
Havan in the name of your Kuldevi
This day brings prosperity, protection, and spiritual upliftment.
Day 6: Continuation of Navratri Rituals
- Daily Jawara Puja
- Fasting and Devi Worship
- Temple Darshan at Jagdamba Mata and Baghrajan Mata
A day symbolizing discipline, submission, and devotion.
Day 7: Experiencing Devi’s Grace
Morning and evening Jawara worship continues.
Villagers pray for Kuldevi’s blessings for generations.
Evening group Aarti at the temple.
Day 8:
Second Jawara Growth Darshan | Devi Aarti and Second Havan
On Ashtami, Jawara reaches its full height.
The second and final Jawara Growth Darshan—a symbol of the complete awakening of Devi Shakti.

Second Havana dedicated to Your Kuldevi
This day is incredibly spiritually powerful.
Day 9:
Kanya Bhojan | Chausath Yogini Darshan | Jawara Visarjan
Morning rituals include:
Kanya Bhojan in the presence of the temple Panda
Ceremonial foot washing of all invited girls
Dakshina (money) is respectfully offered to each Kanya—a sacred tradition.
Later, visit:
Khappar Chausath Yogini Temple—one of India’s oldest Shakti temples. In the evening:
Kuldevi Khappar carried by an unmarried girl
Holy Jawara Visarjan at the temple
After Visarjan:
The feet of the girl carrying Kuldevi Khappar are washed
As is tradition, money and grain are offered to her
This marks the end of the 9-day Navratri Jawara Sadhana.
